Our story

The Mafia, a couple’s idea born from a missed brunch

Behind The Pancakes Mafia are Anya and Perig, a couple who were tired of arriving too late for brunch. So they opened a place where brunch never ends.

Brunch that ends at 2 pm

The idea came from a frustration everyone knows. Brunch is delicious, but it's a race against the clock. On Sundays, service ends at 2 pm and we nearly always arrived too late. So we asked ourselves a simple question. Why not serve these dishes all day, without time limits? There was already a word for it, brinner, breakfast and dinner. It was exactly what we wanted. Sweet and savoury crepes and pancakes from morning to evening, served in generous, comforting portions. A late breakfast, brunch, an afternoon treat or an indulgent dinner. Nobody watches the clock here.

A name born during COVID

Our name is tied to an extraordinary period. We had to change our restaurant's name for trademark reasons, just as most businesses were closing their doors. We chose to stay open every day, serving takeaway only. Thirty or forty loyal customers came to support us almost daily. They bought crepes and pancakes, exchanged a few words and, week by week, a small community took shape. One day a customer walked in, greeted the regulars and said, 'Hello to the whole pancake mafia!' It was funny, and it felt right. The name stuck. It holds real sentimental value for us.

Renens, the big bet

We signed the lease in Renens just two months before COVID began. We could have backed out. We decided to believe in it. Looking back, it was the right choice. A station is a lively place, with people coming and going all day and very different customers at different times. Someone grabbing coffee at 7 am, someone brunching at 3 pm, someone looking for a generous dinner. Our all-day menu makes perfect sense here. That flexibility is in our DNA.

The dish that made our name

The Banana Speculoos. Between us, we jokingly call it our slimming partner. In reality, it is unapologetically indulgent. Fluffy pancakes, Nutella, homemade cream, banana and crumbled speculoos. It never fails to impress when it reaches the table. People often say they feel full just looking at it. And then they finish every last bite.

More than a restaurant, a place to be

Beyond the food, we want to create an experience. Good vibes mean the atmosphere, the music, the welcome and our team's energy. All the reasons to stay a little longer and, most importantly, come back. Our menu evolves, too, with seasonal dishes inspired by whatever we're craving. Generous crepes and pancakes at any hour, in a friendly, family atmosphere. The idea is simple. That's why it works.
